“Improving neighborhoods to promote physical activity and urban safety: a participatory citizen project in Bilbao”

See the results of our study

Unhealthy lifestyle habits are closely related to the onset of cardiovascular disease and obesity. Previous studies have already demonstrated the importance of city factors and neighborhood characteristics on the health and physical activity of its residents. Moreover, the results are consistent when comparing different contexts.

The objective of this project is to analyze the factors of the urban environment related to physical activity, safety and citizen health in neighborhoods of different socioeconomic levels in Bilbao. To this end, a community diagnosis will be carried out using the Fotovoz participatory-action methodology.

During 2022, the results of this study will be analyzed and shared. Based on the conclusions drawn by the citizens themselves, a series of proposals on how to improve their urban environment will be developed.
