Does our neighborhood influence our health? MugiBil Photovoice Project

Nursing and Health Promotion Research Group. Faculty of Medicine and Nursing. UPV/EHU.

Promoting Citizen Science is the objective of the Fotovoz projects. Between November 2021 and January 2022, residents of the neighborhoods of San Pedro de Deusto, Uribarri and San Francisco met in group sessions to analyze their urban environment on physical activity. These results will be transferred to the institutions in charge of promoting the health of the citizens of Bilbao.

The Fotovoz MugiBIL project is a participatory research study that relies on residents of Bilbao to carry out a community diagnosis of the city’s factors related to physical activity. Participants discussed in group sessions about the elements and/or situations that promote or hinder urban mobility in their neighborhoods.

The community has the opportunity to analyze and reflect on its reality and environment. In this way, citizens become researchers, promoting Citizen Science. A collective conscience is formed that has the potential for transformation, since after this analysis they write their own recommendations for the improvement of the urban environment.

The results obtained through this community diagnosis will be presented to citizens and representatives of the Bilbao City Council, Basque Government and Osakidetza in the II Citizen Science Day, where policy recommendations will be presented and discussed with the rest of the neighbors, so that they can present their needs to policy makers responsible for the design and planning of the city.

The event will take place on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 18:00 at the Bizkaia Aretoa. Registration is free and it is necessary to fill in the form in the QR code or in the link www.tinyurl.com/ii-jornada-ciencia-ciudadana or send us an e-mail!!!!
