“A very wide road, and a very narrow pavement that can only be used by one person”

“It is possible to widen some pavements, but what we cannot do is make streets one-way only (…) If they are pedestrianised, the streets are as wide as they are, cars have to circulate and you have to give way to pedestrians and cars, that’s the way it is”.

“I push my mother in a wheelchair and when another pedestrian comes along, he/she has to give way to me or step off the pavement. But widening the pavement is going to make it a one-way street, so the whole neighbourhood is condemned”.
